Netscape 4.79 comes out swinging
It took damn near forever, but I finally got the right two pieces of information back to back on a
google search. Together, these two tricks and tips let me out of a backwards-compatibility hell I'd put myself in, and I've spent waaay too much time working on this to let these resources slip away.

No better place than a Sam's guide to get a quick foundation in an emerging field. This one's not too fresh anymore, but I've been turned on to this concept since Vignette Village last year. They run some pretty impressive portal software based on the availability of web services.
I'm hooked, I guess you could say. Perhaps it's a bit of "cart in front of horse" syndrome, but you gotta follow your interestes....
Where do all the bad shirts go?
If I had a nickel for every time I've heard the stuff on these shirts, well, I'd be a poor bastard.
Here's my favorite - yes it's vulgar, not exactly work-safe.
QuirksMode - for all your browser quirks
QuirksMode is a wealth of HTML, CSS, DOM, etc... experience. Free for the learning. Cheers to it's webmaster: Peter-Paul Koch.
Street Smarts: Learning From JetBlue
"Hi," he said, "my name is Dave Neeleman, and I'm the CEO of JetBlue. I'm here to serve you this evening, and I'm looking forward to meeting each of you before we land."
Inc.com's piece on JetBlue really hits home - seeing of course how I work for a large Chicago-based airline. I should clarify: the article and the experience it details speaks to me, and is very appealing. I'm not exactly sure anyone else around here is even aware of this type of practice by our competitors.
Text the Blogger
This morning began w/ me in the loft, my mobile in the car, a piece of paper in my hand w/ a phone number on it that I thought I'd need, and that I didn't want to remove from my file. No scrap paper for a hundred feet, and my Audrey staring me in the face.
"Ooooh" I thought, "I'll text message myself the number from the T-mobile website!!" Excellent idea, until I discovered that their form has some annoying JavaScript on it which wouldn't let me navigate away from the name field when accessing the form from my Voyager browser.
Fortunately, the form can be made available (here at no charge to you) to send me a quick note in a pinch. Don't over-do it, and remember - SMS has a character limit of 140 characters.
Benefits of having a web site that no one visits but me... ah, the joy of solitude. Here's to hoping I can still send messages from here on Voyager this evening.
A more quotable man there never was
"Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

This one was picked up by Lisa in preparation for her position w/ (new company). I beat her to it, I guess. It's been a nice read, not too technical, and makes some good, straightforward arguments for good site design and searchability.
I concur.

My first css-d thread
It was a wordy post indeed, but sadly necessary. Hope the list comes through for me. I'd hate to have to work this one up again.
css-discuss.org
While it may come to the point where I need to take my CSS troubles to the streets here: css-discuss.org, I think I'll try this procedure first, and see what I can come up with.
ECC Online Instruction Center
Looks like this is where I'm going to go first:
Online Instruction Center at ECC.
Gotta love community college.
Coffeehaus
Spent an afternoon at my first official wifi cafe: Coffeehaus
Plesant was the experience - although somewhat cramped. Some would say cozy. The mocha was good, the net was fast. I was happy.
Computer Science Professional Programs :: The University of Chicago
Computer Science Professional Programs :: The University of Chicago sounds like it may be a good alternative to the program at DePaul. Downsides are of course that it costs more, and there's no remote component. Upsides are that it would be shorter.... Hyde Park is kinda far off though. Hmmm, let's not neglect the other uber-expensive universities in the area: Northwestern also has an evening program.
Dream Home
This post is a bookmark to this site which I keep losing and finding over and over again - it's the Design Classics of St. Louis site. My dream home is either the 9930 Plan, or the 9850, but that one's almost too much.
Please be kind to them - their site is rather, umm... crippled - is the best way to put it. It has major problems, but I'm still in love with most of their designs. The ones with the "turrets" and stuff. I wanna build a castle. I'm a geek.
